The United Arab Emirates University Al Ain was commissioned by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan after the UAE achieved independence from Great Britain. Completed in 1976 by British architect John Elliott, the university is the first and oldest of three government-sponsored higher-education institutions that focus on research, technology, and accessible higher education for Emiratis.
